چکیده
Background: Species of the genus Maytenus are recognized for their uses in pain and cancer-related conditions. The purpose literature review was to compile scientific information on traditional uses, chemical constituents, pharmacological activities laevis Reissek. Methods: name its synonyms, combination with "traditional uses" OR ethnobotany "chemical constituents" composition" phytochemistry "biological activities" "pharmacological pharmacology, were searched main databases. Seventy papers selected according research type relevance. Results: M. is known by common ''chuchuhuasi'' traditionally used treatment rheumatism cancer, although it also as a sexual enhancer. Its constituents pyridine-derived alkaloids, triterpenes, sterols, iridoids phenolic compounds, great interest, but only anti-inflammatory, antibacterial, antiparasitic anticancer have been proven preclinical studies. In addition, different studies point growth Peru, due being confused other species Maytenus. Conclusions: Reports composition indicate therapeutic potential this species. However, there little effects at clinical levels. Therefore, further could verify correct distribution validation uses. specific markers be differentiate from Keywords: laevis, javensis, Monteverdia use, activities.
